Two American Airlines planes clipped wings on the ground at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport on Thursday. The incident occurred on a taxiway when the wingtip of one aircraft struck another. No injuries were reported, but one of the planes was carrying five U.S. lawmakers, including Representative Grace Meng. The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the minor collision, which comes just months after a deadly crash near the same airport. The event has raised concerns about ground safety procedures at the busy Washington hub.

Two American Airlines jets clipped wings on a taxiway, officials said. Representative Grace Meng said that, in 10 years of flying to and from Washington, “This has never happened to me.”
This is exactly why we need stronger federal oversight and investment in our transportation infrastructure. Airline safety shouldn't be a partisan issue—people’s lives are at stake, and clearly the current systems are falling short. Maybe now that lawmakers experienced it firsthand, they'll finally push for the funding and reforms we've been needing for years.

Maybe if the FAA wasn’t a bloated government bureaucracy bogged down in red tape, we’d have more efficient and safer air traffic systems. Leave it to the government to regulate airlines into incompetence while lawmakers fly around on the taxpayers’ dime.
