Arizona House Republicans again on Wednesday blocked an attempt to repeal the 1864 ban on nearly all abortions that was reinstated last week by the state Supreme Court
Democrats and a handful of supportive Republicans may have a chance to try again this afternoon before the chamber adjourns.
If they're unsuccessful, they'll have until next week when the Legislature reconvenes.
The state Senate could also pass a repeal when it meets at 1:15pm today. Two GOP senators have called for repeal, which would give the bill enough votes to pass.
Rep. Stephanie Stahl Hamilton (D-Tucson) made a motion Wednesday morning to force a vote on the repeal bill she had introduced earlier this year.
A 30-30 vote tie — with one Republican in support — meant the vote failed.
