I believe that some people struggle with the idea of "white-privilege" because they're entitled, and ignorant. White people live their lives so much easier than minorities, and always have. Because of this, they don't know what it would be like to be disadvantaged in society. Of course, white people can have hard lives as well, but a white person living in poverty has life so much easier than a POC living in poverty, just because of societal standards.

 @9KL73MY from Illinois  disagreed…1yr1Y

White privilege is a construct designed to create victimhood in both minorities and whites. This creates an “us vs them” environment in which no one feels that they can succeed. The ONLY way to improve the outcomes of all is to imposed them to understand that worth is not based on skin color, but is inherent in the human condition. Only By lifting up all people, can we create a society in which all can succeed

 @9KL73HV from Missouri  disagreed…1yr1Y

I believe that white privilege is not a thing in the United States. Race is one of the least important factors, if not the least, when it comes to success in America. Rather, it's the idea that POC need to be coddled or treated like they don't have the ability to accomplish as much as a white person that's the true bigotry. The biggest factor in determining whether someone is successful in America is if they grew up in a two parent household. Many of the gaps in success people accuse racism for are actually gaps due to the family structure of the people analyzed. This is especially important when it comes to academic success, wealth, lack of criminal behavior, etc.

America has come a long way from slavery, etc. It is time to heal the wounds, not create bigger ones.

 @9KBWB9B from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

People do not understand this concept because they refuse to listen. I think the biggest problem the United States is facing is the fact that if people find out you’re a different political party from them, they don’t even give you the time of day. People need to open their ears and be more compassionate towards views different than their own. In addition, lots of people are racist and refuse to accept significant historical events!

 @9KBZ7BQ from California  agreed…1yr1Y

I feel that this is a very simplified answer to the question, but the sentiment is not completely lacking. So much fear and resentment has been taught and ingrained in so many people that it makes it hard for them to change. Fear is one of the top manipulation tactics there is.

 @9KBYZDB from Pennsylvania  agreed…1yr1Y

I think there’s a lot of guilt and shame that is tied into white privilege and people not wanting to admit that indeed we are not all treated the same

 @9KCLCFQ from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

white privilege is often seen as something bad; that all white people think they're above all others.

 @9KHPXRZRepublican from Michigan  disagreed…1yr1Y

White Privilege is not real a white man has no privilege over a black man they both have the same freedoms and rights they are equal.

 @9KCMV4Z from Texas  agreed…1yr1Y

People struggle due to the fact that there isn’t exactly much of equality within the people when it comes to others who are “different”.

 @9KBB923Republican from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Some people think that all white people are racist and that's just not the case.

 @9KBGZPJSocialist from Texas  disagreed…1yr1Y

all white people have some form of racist belief ingrained into them, somewhere or another. it depends on how they were raised

 @9KFLXLM from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

I think because they never lived in someone with colored skins shoes, so they don't understand how difficult it could be for us/colored individuals.

 @9KHQCZT from Virginia  disagreed…1yr1Y

I'm Latino. I don't agree with the idea of "white privilege" and that it's so hard to understand it. What is hard to understand is how conversely hiring others solely based on their race fixes that problem... it doesn't.

 @9KGMBWNDemocrat from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

I think people struggle because they feel guilty, or like we’re saying they should feel guilty, when that’s not the case.

It’s hard for those who are ahead to acknowledge it because they then have to face the fact that things are just easier for them. That’s not always the easiest pill to swallow.

If you were a sportsman, and you learned that all this time, the other teams didn’t have the same supports, teachers, and supplements as you, you’d feel kinda bad right? But then, why don’t they have them? “They’re just jealous.” Or something to that affect.

 @9KMLR7C from Virginia  disagreed…1yr1Y

People that don’t understand white privilege are white, and they have never experienced the same bias as people of color.

 @9KCKBYX from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

I think it's because people dont try and have priviledge and they may not see it. It is hard to realize that it isn't your fault, but you are just systematically priveldged.

 @9KDPJML from Indiana  disagreed…1yr1Y

People do not understand that they have white privilege plainly because they are white, it's not hard to understand. White people have such a higher advantage when it comes to anything. If a white person thinks they do not have white privilege it is only because they simply do not care.

 @9KFZFW2 from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

White people for centuries have been given privileges that people of other races have been denied. And due to the fact that these people will/have never experienced any sort of racial discrimination, and see that people of other races legally have the same rights as them they find it hard to see outside of themselves and their lives. Because all of their experiences have only been positively effected by this privilege they simply assume that everyone else lives the same exact way.

 @9KLZDSX from Missouri  disagreed…1yr1Y

It's a socioeconomic issue and nothing to do with race. Poor people will always be treated like criminals and we'll have less rights than people who are more well-dressed and well spoken and higher educated

 @9KJYTS4 from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

I think that some people simply don't want to recognize it. It all comes down to a matter of ignorance, whether willful or not

 @9KLNT8CRepublican from Alabama  disagreed…1yr1Y

white privilege doesn't exist people of color have more advantages then white people in today society all it is the victim mentality

 @9KCKLQSLibertarian from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

I think some people struggle to understand 'white privilege' because they're either oblivious to it,believe its not real and continues to live their life in privilege instead of helping or assisting someone hone who needs it. I would describe it as a privilege that only certain people have until and it is noble

 @9KDHTBV from Pennsylvania  disagreed…1yr1Y

white privilige doesnt exist what is real is the giftedness of individuals lucky enough to have a start in their life to get successful in life no matter race

 @9KC2GQBIndependence from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

It's hard to know about something that you have never experienced and that doesn't have concrete evidence. I would explain it as a subconscious bias that people form.

 @9KDVF29Democrat from Oregon  disagreed…1yr1Y

I think it's a real thing shown throughout history in the ways white governments have usually treated black people. White people are usually treated better although it's gotten more equal as time has gone on

 @9KBLP2QPeace and Freedom from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Some people seem to not understand because they haven't lived the same life as someone who is not white privileged. The concept of white privilege is simply having more value for your skin tone.

 @9KBY869 from California  agreed…1yr1Y

it not about just getting advantages but not getting disadvantages some groups get and people get those confused a lot of times.

 @9QKKG66  from Pennsylvania  answered…8mos8MO

I think that many white people in the USA want to believe that everything is merit-based, all achievements are one’s own, that their success in life is self-made and solely as a result of their own hard work. Taking into account social issues such as implicit biases and inherent racism makes them believe that their hard work wasn’t as important - which it still is important, but it is *also* due to factors outside of their control that they are where they are today.
One way to explain it could be by directly refuting the fallacy that white privilege does not exist - whether by cit…  Read more

 @9KHKXCX from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Because they didnt grow up during the time or racism so they wouldnt know how hard it was being black during those times

 @9KFK6XH from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Because realistically, there probably is no white privilege. America is probably the most free and equal country in the world, where anybody can achieve the American dream if they try hard enough and overcome their weakness and achieve their goals.

 @9KDL9CC from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Because they don't realize the extra comfort and rights they have over other certain groups.

 @9KBDS7MDemocrat from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

they just dont understand what those people went through and also cant respect them and like what their ancestors went through we could see why they can get upset.

 @9KFRBVF from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

people automatically categorize black people because they think they cant cope or get to where they want to be because of there dads

 @9KBWM6W from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

I think they struggle to understand "white privilege" because they haven't seen it & they don't have a good example of what it is. I would say it's like pretty privilege but just for white people.

 @9KFPFTN from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

I think people do because people are just butt hurt that other people are oppressed.

 @9KCJ74QDemocrat from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

It's like when you dunk on an African American for their skin color and how the cops don't particularly like them, it's like the exact opposite for Caucasians. We literally run the country, and people of color should not be treated the way they are. Disgraceful

 @9KBQKT7 from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Regardless to white privilege, It is better to not even have Racism in the first place. We all have our equal rights and we should do whatever we want. However we also have protocols we need to follow as well.

 @9KHPZTZ from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Statistically, it is proven that white people are given more opportunities and are seen differently in the eyes of the law. I think people struggle due to only what they have seen in their own lives.

 @9KB8FZGRepublican from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

There is no white privilege colored people have the choice to argue about how they want they selves to be criticized.

 @9K8Z3VNWomen’s Equality from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

They see some people like Obama be successful and be president so they think everything is good now.

 @9KHT8PM from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

I think people might struggle to understand the concept because those that might not understand it arent in the position to think that they are more privileged than other races, A poor white person might not understand what privilege they have compared to a poor African-American.

 @9KFN3SZ from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

I think that the world still hasn't come to the conclusion that everyone is equal and black, Hispanic, or white men and women arent going anywhere any time soon.

 @9KBQV67 from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

 @9K9G7T8 from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

I assume many may struggle to understand the concept of white privilege because it is often abused and misused. White privilege is someone of a certain race having privilege over someone or people of a different race.

 @9K9DHL9 from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

They might not see the opposite of white privilege and if not they, maybe some people have seen white privilege but they accept it just like pretty privilege or any other thing.
