I don't really care as long as English is the dominant language
@9JGP2L71yr1Y
language is simply a way of communication. if you do not understand, you should strive to communicate in a more effective way. technology has made leaps and bounds in this. utilize it.
The United States has no official language. We are not a melting pot but rather a celebration of differences in culture and language. To have the same language and force it on everyone is wrong.
Because even though I might not understand the language it's still important to be considerate of others and respectful because English may not be their primary language.
Having diverse populations allows for an optimal intermingling of cultures and ideas. No one language need be dominant.
@25PCXTQConstitution 1yr1Y
Depends. In America, if it's a worker where I'm doing business/shopping, it's frustrating. If outside that scenario, or in another country - doesn't bother me in the least.
@9J6PDLH1yr1Y
In America, there is a freedom of not only speech but also an implied freedom to speak any language you would like to. The question does not imply whether or not the person speaking the other language is speaking directly to the person, so there is a likelihood that they can speak a little English. So, being bothered by simply hearing someone speak another language is inherently unnecessary.
people may not have the opportunity to learn another language and today we have technology to communicate with everyone.
@9J5XPSF1yr1Y
If they are communicating with another worker and speak English to you I don't understand being frustrated, they are probably frustrated they have to speak English to work but at the end of the day you only have that interaction once.
@9J5XM9R1yr1Y
This is America, the land of the free. Therefore, people have the freedom to speak the language they are most comfortable with.
@9HVC6LLConstitution1yr1Y
I don't care about not understanding. I can't make anyone speak the language I speak they come from different countries with different languages. There are hundreds of languages that we can not do to prevent them from speaking their language.
@9HZGHRX1yr1Y
the US should give the freedom for anyone to speak and learn different languages, the "United States" should be united no matter the language, race or religion.
@9HZ3Z351yr1Y
That is totally okay because we are all different with different childhoods, languages, lifestyles, and it's actually really cool to speak different languages.
@9K7BWC7Libertarian1yr1Y
A nation is a collection of people with a shared history, heritage, and culture. Language is a key aspect of a shared national identity. I firmly believe the US should adopt English as its national language and require citizens to understand and speak English fluently enough to get by, but citizens should be free to be multilingual and speak whichever language they want with their friends, family, and others that speak the same language.
@9K7VSX8Republican1yr1Y
America is not what it preaches of it forces its citizens to conform to one national language. Immigrants are already working to understand the language in order to get around and should t be pressured by the government. America was quite literally formed because white propel came over and took away another groups culture so they shouldn’t forcing people to hide the very thing that makes America so prominent in the world.
Estoy de acuerdo porque el idioma nativo es algo que se debería conservar de las dos partes de la cultura la americana y la de los in migrant
@9K7TCRH1yr1Y
Migration is of all times yet, citizen should have a Common language to communicate with each other, yet, other languages of migrants shouldn't je banned because that is the Common language they used to communicate while growing up.
@9JXXMPQLibertarian1yr1Y
I wish that more people would put more effort in learning English as it's a universal language
@9K3K6751yr1Y
Yes, people should put in the effort to learn English , However it is not a universal language there are , Spanish, french, German and Japanese as well.
There are other languages in this world and just because I don't want to learn their doesn't mean they have to learn mine.
@9JYV4SM1yr1Y
People have the right to speak their language among their friends and family from the same country no matter the circumstance. it's like telling someone not to breath and taking away their heritage.
@9J95538Libertarian1yr1Y
I'm OK with the use of languages I don't understand and I feel that all peoples no matter what language they speak should be welcome.
@9JDFKR71yr1Y
English, being the language of commerce, should be learned by people who desire to live here permanently.
@9JDF3VK1yr1Y
I believe every language matters and while it is very important to learn the spoken language in your country, not everyone has the materials to do so.
Why should we be scared of people who can't speak our language. At the core of them they are still human. They have the same problems and goals as us.
@9HWF3SMLibertarian1yr1Y
I do not care because I know that being multilingual is a normal thing.
@9HXTJZT1yr1Y
I don't really care I do get curious though, but I know the world is huge obviously someone is going to be speaking another language, so I don't care.
@CurvyletterConstitution 1yr1Y
I love to hear different languages than mine being spoken. The world is so interesting. I've had a natural interest in linguistics and culture.
@9LLWPVXLibertarian1yr1Y
I'm not offended by them. I think it is fine that people speak in other languages. But we all need to learn English. We are not a nations if we can't communicate with one another.
@9K5NGZSLibertarian1yr1Y
I feel weird because I don’t understand foreign languages
i emrace foreign langauges as i beleive they better our society and bring more intelligence as a whole
@9K5YVLS1yr1Y
We should encourage people to learn new and different languages. We shouldn't have a negative attitude towards Bilingual people.
@9K7VD9NLibertarian1yr1Y
I have a sympathy and an appreciation for other languages and remain patient when speaking with individuals that don’t speak English or very little.
@9KFRRZK1yr1Y
My boyfriends family is from Mexico and hearing them speak Spanish is so beautiful, I am working on learning the language myself.
@9KCY3MW1yr1Y
Anyone who doesn't have patience for those still learning English has no grasp of how difficult it is to pick up a new language later in life.
@9HVJNLLConstitution1yr1Y
I want to learn more about language I don't understand, and I think it's wise to.
@9J9RMSQConstitution1yr1Y
I don’t mind hearing other languages spoken. I just don’t like when someone who speaks another language is trying to communicate with me and I can’t understand what they’re saying. It would be nice if English was taught as the primary language of America.
@9JH27TR1yr1Y
People express themselves with their language and their words and not liking it because someone has one different than yours is unfair,
@9J96NBJLibertarian1yr1Y
I don't have any issue with people around me speaking languages I don't understand - this happens sometimes even when they are speaking a certain dialect of English that I don't comprehend... Of course I will be curious and wonder what they might be talking about, but it has no impact on my daily life.
@9J9DPKB1yr1Y
Just people going about their day. Just because they are speaking in a language I do not understand, does not mean they are plotting my demise.
Confused, probably because I don't understand the language.
@9J5DT4G1yr1Y
I feel curious because I’d love to get to know where they’re from and what language they are speaking.
@9JWCJDJConstitution1yr1Y
I dont care but if you live in the U.S you should know english
@9K3B8Y2 1yr1Y
America has been made for freedom and everyone, we should be happy to hear other languages and diversity in this country.
@9J3PK2DLibertarian1yr1Y
When I hear languages I don't understand I often am curious to understand them better. This because I spent two years in Ghana with lots of languages I didn't understand.
@9LLGFKVLibertarian1yr1Y
I feel intrigued because it's different and beautiful, and I end up wanting to know what they're saying and what language they're speaking.
@9LLZCSXRepublican1yr1Y
I do not care what language they are speaking, why would I be listening to other peoples conversations, I like to mind my own damn business
@9K5ZKVGLibertarian1yr1Y
Differences between cultures and people within the same country make it more difficult to form unity in times of disaster.
@9K6PLZ9Progressive1yr1Y
Times of disaster are so few and far between. The lack of unity may only derive from negligence to educate people on the beauties and practices of cultures other than our own.
@9J9DFBLLibertarian1yr1Y
I feel indifferent towards different languages although it may be confusing if I'm trying to have a conversation with someone.
@9JDFPXC1yr1Y
As someone from a foreign household I dont have a problem with people speaking a different language from me. In fact I kind of get intrigued if it is a language I've never heard before.
@9J9CMQNLibertarian1yr1Y
@4Y4PRDLLibertarian 1yr1Y
Intrigued. I am fascinated by foreign languages, and I like to guess what language it is.
@9JCVBZ8Independent1yr1Y
I study language, and it's just the way we speak and communicate. It shouldn't affect how you see the person.
@9JWD568Libertarian1yr1Y
Its not my place to say anything, if they are a US citizen then i have no say.
@9JWHXX51yr1Y
So if they are a tourist talking to their group about what to eat for lunch, then there is reason to say something?
Left out but speaking different languages are people's rights.
@9JYXQQT1yr1Y
I understand what they are talking about because I too feel that way. But who am I to try and stop them from speaking whatever language they want?
@9JWFWDYLibertarian1yr1Y
I'm opposed to any policy that segregates society. In order to move on from historical discrimination, everyone needs to be treated equally. No special rights. All American.
@9K6XMBKLibertarian1yr1Y
People can speak whatever language they want. English isn't even the native language to this continent. I don't feel anything when I hear people speak a language I don't understand because it's none of my business
@9KF72R6 1yr1Y
The primary language used in this country is English. Learn it or attempt to understand and learn it.
@9J96M2TLibertarian1yr1Y
When I hear a language I don't understand, I attempt to figure out what language it is, as I am somewhat knowledgable in Spanish, so I think that it's cool.
@9JB8P8B1yr1Y
I have lived in many countries and hearing other languages just increases my appreciation of the variety of cultures in our world.
@9HYHRWYLibertarian 1yr1Y
I dont feel anything, people can speak as they wish when they wish to though i do feel uneasy if they seemlike they are talking about me.
@9HYH6DMConstitution1yr1Y
With language I do not understand, I research so I can be involved and know what I am talking about
@7GMLFS6Libertarian 9mos9MO
It increases our diversity, so it's beneficial to everyone
@ErikaSeydlitzReform 10mos10MO
I’m interested in foreign languages, so I’d probably appreciate the opportunity to try to interact with them.
@9RHKRQ4Libertarian10mos10MO
I don't care because I don't dislike cultural differences.
@9RHLX3PLibertarian10mos10MO
Other languages elicit no emotional response from me.
I don't care. Along as they aren't trying to impose themselves onto us.
@9R4QSY9Libertarian10mos10MO
I don't believe in "minority rights." There are only "individual rights" and every individual should be treated the same way.
@9R4CSRYLibertarian10mos10MO
I speak more than 1 language, as long as everyone is respectful of the peace I don't care.
@9R43VFMConstitution10mos10MO
This depends wholly on the context. My maim feeling is that I wished I could understand the person I'm order to communicate and in order to know what they are doing or trying to do in the moment.
@9R3GMSCLibertarian10mos10MO
I don’t care, America is a melting pot of cultures .
@9J7V3Z3Libertarian 10mos10MO
Angry. Why would you go to someone else’s home that they pay the electric, mortgage, water, and taxes on. Then tell them that the language that they have used the entire life isn’t sufficient enough.
@9R39ZKKLibertarian 10mos10MO
I don't care, just someone speaking in other language
@Name-IrrelevantConstitution 10mos10MO
I don't mind hearing any language spoken, as long as the speaker understands U.S. law and respects it.
@9KZ4VDRConstitution 10mos10MO
I don't like it. American English is what we speak in America. I don't go to Italy and demand they change everything into American English. Everything in America should be English.
@8DRPR5TLibertarian 10mos10MO
I love hearing new languages. It is what makes American culture so rich with depth.
@9QYK7JSLibertarian10mos10MO
All citizens should be allowed to speak whatever language they chose, however by not having an official language requirement the US puts itself at a disadvantage in the business world. Language barriers can also impede law enforcement. English should be a requirement for citizenship.
@6R6HBQ3Constitution 10mos10MO
I'm fascinated and excited because I love linguistics and phonetics
@9QX43B2Constitution10mos10MO
I don’t care that much. It’s just somebody else’s language.
@9QWX7G8Libertarian10mos10MO
I feel happy that someone from a different culture is choosing to partake in the American life
@9QWN667Libertarian 10mos10MO
A disproportionate amount of people as opposed to the population density would not be in the judicial system if a disproportioned amount of those people did not commit crimes to get them there
@9QWBCD5Libertarian10mos10MO
People are free to talk in whatever language they desire. But due to convenience they will most likely converge into one
@jsimicConstitution 10mos10MO
I suppose I feel disrespect, because my country has an unofficial national language, and for you to come to my country and speak your language in public tells me you have no intention to assimilate and integrate, but rather to segregate and collect into cliques.
@9QQQG5RLibertarian10mos10MO
I feel annoyed. It just sounds like nonsense sounds.
@9Q9FDPSLibertarian10mos10MO
I think it is interesting to hear different languages in the US, we are a diverse country with many backgrounds.
@9Q93NCVLibertarian10mos10MO
I feel like i’m enveloped in a rich culture the US has to offer. the melting pot of the world.
@KylePhoenixConstitution 10mos10MO
No such thing as "minority rights." Our rights all come from God.
@82KDHL3Libertarian 10mos10MO
I don't care. People come from all over the world and the fact that they can and do speak another language could not bother me less.
@9JV8HBFLibertarian 10mos10MO
I feel interested to learn so that I may communicate successfully.
@53PP5W5Libertarian 10mos10MO
Languages have nothing to do with rights and "minorities" don't have any rights different from anyone else. Rights are inherent to INDIVIDUALS.
