Why do you think it’s significant to learn about and remember the consequences of authoritarian government in history classes?

 @9JJPVBCRepublicanfrom Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

So that it doesn’t get repeated again, the government doesn’t do well under this idea.

 @9JPTMP6 from Michigan  agreed…1yr1Y

soldiers worked really hard to gain our freedom there is no need to reverse it and cause us to lose that freedom people lost their lives over

 @9JJQWD4 from Washington D.C.  answered…1yr1Y

Because the consequences are extremely important to use as a lesson to improve upon in the future..

 @9JJQ2FTRepublican from Indiana  answered…1yr1Y

It is important to learn from the past because those who do not are doomed to repeat it.

What is a piece of advice you would offer to someone who wants to be an ally in the fight against oppressive regimes but doesn't know where to start?

 @9KLX8QL from Wisconsin  answered…1yr1Y

Start out by learning about the regime. Picket and protest against it. If you’re an able-bodied adult and care enough, consider fighting against that regime.

 @9KLXDHLfrom Virgin Islands  answered…1yr1Y

Learn the history of those regimes and the circumstances under which they developed.

How would you respond to someone who says that taking a stand against oppression doesn't change anything?

 @9KLL2FLanswered…1yr1Y

i would say that that statement is true up to a certain extent. BLM does nothing for the black community

 @9KLLFTYPeace and Freedomanswered…1yr1Y

Taking a stand can get your voice heard so you can help voice the issues and help fix them.

 @9KLL45Wanswered…1yr1Y

 @9KLKS3Y from Massachusetts  answered…1yr1Y

I believe standing up to oppression does change something, but only if you have a large enough group to be influential.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

What role do you think humor and satire play in challenging oppressive ideas, and can you think of an example?

 @9JDFWGK from Florida  answered…1yr1Y

By making an idea seem humorous; you can make it seem smaller and less important than it is and give people less faith in it.

 @9JDGGJD from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Humor and satire can play a large role in showing how ridiculous some fascist ideals are. There are multiple videos on YouTube and other media-sharing websites where people play the role of parents in one case and when their child "comes out" as straight, there's an immediate disconnect between the parents and the child as well as anger.

Can you think of a time when you stood up against something you felt was wrong; how did that make you feel?

 @9HJCQG5Peace and Freedomanswered…2yrs2Y

A time when I stood up against something I felt was wrong was when I heard in the news that a women couldn't get an abortion even though she needed to because her life was endanger however it was banned in the state for her to get an abortion regardless of her life being at risk. That made me feel upset and disappointed because the women's life is at risk and she could potentially lose her life if she was to give birth to an infant.

What does the term 'anti-fascism' mean to you on a personal level and why?

 @9H95FHF from North Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

It doesn't mean anything to me because I simply dont care I am so young

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia  commented…1yr1Y

What better place to start when one is young? America as a whole has shirked politics when it is the very mechanism by which we can gain a better life. At the very least, we should educate ourselves and come to gain opinions.

 @8QMMB5MGreen  from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

In my eyes, anti-fascism is the fight against authoritarianism by all means. The evils that anti-fascism targets include racism, nationalism, religious theocracy, economic inequality, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of discrimination. On a lesser note, anti-fascism also targets imperialism and the capitalist divide, as, in the eyes of anti-fascism, these are tools for fascism to plant its roots in society.

 @9H9BFS3 from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

well here's the thing what's the point of having an anti-fascism, For one is that we see on tv on to CNN people talking about how we, Americans in country racism, and sexism others face throughout our daily live's, they show it all the time in cartoons, and even movies from the oldy's to the latest one's that family's show our kids these days, hearing it as well as watching to. so no we should not use anti-fascism
in every where we go schools to jobs.

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia  commented…1yr1Y

And yet, it doesn’t stop at the government level. We have a Republican candidate right now who’s a fascist: Donald J Trump.

 @9H98XNB from New York  answered…2yrs2Y

Anti-Fascism to me is not looking at it as an organization but as a social movement.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

How do lessons from historical anti-fascist movements apply to today’s social and political climate?

 @9HJC5GNanswered…2yrs2Y

In general these movements will continue to happen and fascism will evolve and while it effects the social and political climate today, fascism and a new anti fascism will still happen.

 @9HJCT95Libertarian  from Wisconsin  answered…2yrs2Y

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

What emotions do you experience when you think about the importance of fighting against oppressive ideologies?

 @9H98SBYRepublican from Illinois  answered…2yrs2Y

I think that some ideologies can be bad, but should only be dealt with if they do something that damages private property.

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia  commented…1yr1Y

corporatocracy encourages private property… for the rich, but doesn’t threaten it, yet it may be one of the worst systems out there.

 @9H9D7SM from Iowa  answered…2yrs2Y

The emotion I feel most is rage because, in this day and age, there should be no oppressors. When it comes to America it is quite embarrassing for us to oppress a minority when we fought against the oppression of the crown; it's hypocritical. But rage is not the only, nor the most important emotion. As a person who doesn't directly experience oppression, is important for people like me to raise the voices of those who do without being in the way.

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia  commented…1yr1Y

Rage fear, hope, and determination all in one, it’s overwhelming, but that emotion matches how important it is that ideologies like fascism never reach the halls of government.

 @9HYTZRY  from Washington  answered…1yr1Y

Yes I believe I am Anti-Fascism

In what scenarios could 'the lesser of two evils' philosophy be dangerous when combatting extreme ideologies?

 @9HJFK9MRepublican from Michigan  answered…2yrs2Y

The lesser of two evils philosophy could be dangerous in a scenario where open freedom of expression and criticism is banned. When freedom of expression exists, open criticism can flow, allowing for issues to be pointed out and fixed, rather than ignored and supressed.

I think people should be able to be both free and equal. Why do we have to be so split apart? Human beings deserve to be treated with respect. We should all have the right to have free speech and be equal as a whole instead of being split apart and always at war with one another.

Why might some people find authoritarian ideologies appealing, and how can society address those underlying issues?

Fascism Definition, Characteristics & Examples - Video ...
The main idea of fascism is complete rule over a nation by a dictator

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia  commented…1yr1Y

Along with bringing the host country back to a glorious past that never existed at all. The fascist leader tends to claim to be the embodiment of the people, and speaks of the enemy being all those not on their side, and the “cultural elites” of the nation. Fascism is inherently a “strongman” based system, especially emphasizing masculinity and extreme xenophobic nationalism.

I would either argue that it's not that bad, but if they're being targeted and are going to be hit and hurt and I respect them, then I'm going to join in and fight against the oppressors.  @9HPWDFQ from New York  answered…2yrs2Y

Be racially color blind. As MLK once said, I have a dream, that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin. Today, we segregate people from the oppressed and the oppressors. Effectively losing the dream of MLK. All us as a people need to do is stop seeing color, and start seeing eachother.
