Can satire go too far, and if so, where do you personally draw the line?

 @9H8MSMTanswered…2yrs2Y

There's a limit to everything, satire can 100% go too far but people should have freedom of speech, up until they threaten people or incite something. People also have a moral responsibility to know what they should and shouldn't say.

 @9H7TQYJ from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Satire should only be used in appropriate settings and I draw the line at personal and sensitive topics such as one's health and family.

 @9H7RNV5 from Michigan  answered…2yrs2Y

When it gets too aggressive to the point where it's harassment. Not everyone has the same perspective. So if someone can't take a "joke" you should not be considered in the wrong

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

What is your reaction to a satirical piece that challenges a belief you hold strongly?

 @9H8DTXS from Ohio  answered…2yrs2Y

Depending on the belief, i would mentally challenge what it is saying, I would defend my own belief to myself, so I can think clearly about what I believe.

 @9H8RSVR from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe that an individual is able to prove their point without degrading another persons views and opinions. When you are trying to persuade someone it’s way more convincing to prove your points rather than say the other person is wrong the whole time.

 @9H85H4T from Nebraska  answered…2yrs2Y

Just because I believe something, doesn't mean everyone else does and because free speech is a thing, anyone can oppose my beliefs at any time. Therefore a satirical piece that challenges a strong belief would leave me unbothered.

 @9H8HPPT from Minnesota  answered…2yrs2Y

I try to take it with a grain of salt. It is a satire so I can't be too upset that I chose to read the piece and expected it to be of my beliefs. Though, I do hope it's done in good taste and not just something to get clout. I hope it provides a valid opinion in at least some way.

How does age affect one's ability to understand and appreciate the layers of meaning in a satirical work?

 @9J33GYK from New Jersey  answered…1yr1Y

Kinds may not understand satire and not know the serious part of it and continue to make jokes about sonething that shouldnt be joked about.

 @9J43J3M  from California  agreed…1yr1Y

This younger generation is soft and get hurt over something little as if someone gets their pronouns wrong when back then no one cared or started crying over little stuff.

 @9J33WS8 from Illinois  answered…1yr1Y

 @9J33JC3 from Michigan  answered…1yr1Y

A fair amount. anyone over 75 should have to pass a cognitive function test first.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

How do you think satire affects the public's willingness to discuss uncomfortable topics?

 @9L8CPY2 from Connecticut  answered…1yr1Y

It increases it and opens the floor for discussion.

 @9L8DFCS from South Carolina  disagreed…1yr1Y

It is more beneficial for people to understand that it is okay to be uncomfortable. People turn to humor to diffuse difficult topics, but do not know how to engage with them otherwise.

 @9L8D3WB from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

Satire's use for the purpose of politics makes people cautious of what they are going to talk about.

 @9L8CWVM from Illinois  answered…1yr1Y

It makes the public be uncomfortable to say stuff because they don’t know if they’re going to be judged on their opinion or not.

 @9L8CV9B from Illinois  answered…1yr1Y

It makes it difficult when it comes to find out the real problems people have

Can humor mask the seriousness of an issue, or does it enhance your ability to engage with it?

 @9J33XCN from California  answered…1yr1Y

Satire enhances your ability to engage with a serious topic. It lets people's guard down, makes them think about it on a more simple level, and really gets to the root of the problem. It can highlight how silly and stupid some of the things going on in our society are, and make people less afraid to talk about certain things.

 @9J33VPM from Massachusetts  answered…1yr1Y

It depends on the context- sometimes humor is a way to avoid serious issues, but sometimes it can be a way of highlighting aspects of an issue not otherwise considered.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

How did a satirical message spark a discussion or debate in your life that led to a deeper understanding of an issue?

 @9J39BDJRepublican  from Virginia  answered…1yr1Y

I've had conversations before where I am informed about something unjust happening, and I immediately start to argue that it is and that something needs to be done. I'm given more information on the subject and matters and that arouses more questions on how this happened and why, and as the discussion goes on there is more information given and thus understanding of the situation.

 @9HTP9BNConstitution from North Carolina  commented…2yrs2Y

For me, it was satire about the Covid vaccine that really introduced me to the world of politics and showed me that the government's enforcement of anything medical is stupid (remember my body, my choice?). It got me thinking and started me down the rabbit hole of political information that I know today.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

What personal experience have you had that shows the power or the pitfalls of using humor to deliver a serious message?

 @9J32Z9S from California  answered…1yr1Y

Failed humor can close connections as I learned when attempting to use humor to console a friend regarding the death of their cat.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

How might satire play a role in shaping your political or social awareness during significant historical events?

 @9J32MQP from Illinois  answered…1yr1Y

 @9J32877Republican from Nevada  answered…1yr1Y

I enjoy the Satire because it shows people what they are doing wrong and how stupid they look when doing it. It is also if you are going to do something and someone calls you out for it you should change it if it is something that is that serious.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

How can satire give voice to those who feel powerless or marginalized within societal structures?

 @9HP38X4 from New York  answered…2yrs2Y

Satire can give voices to people who would otherwise not have a voice, it reaches across many people and is mainly universal. However, it is also important to note that saying harmful things can and has a history of insighting violence and tragedy.

 @9HP37K5 from Nebraska  answered…2yrs2Y

Chance to use humor to bring down those in power who are corrupted and voice how they feel about the law in an appealing way that can get them more supporters.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

When humor targets a societal flaw, how does it affect your perception of the issue?

 @9J33LYWRepublican from New Jersey  answered…1yr1Y

It doesn't it was humor and should only be taken as a joke with the exception if it goes to far and is hate speech or harassment.

 @9HTLNW4 from North Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

What role do you think humor has in addressing sensitive issues?

 @9JC6JL7  from Ohio  answered…1yr1Y

Humor is used too often, especially nowadays, and it sometimes downplays serious issues.

 @9JB4LCHRepublican from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

I believe humor is a good addition to speeches and conversations; however, there is a fine line between being funny and being offensive or durogatory.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

How might encountering satire unexpectedly online shape your day or mood?

 @9K9X4TT from Florida  answered…1yr1Y

Satire is a powerful tool of political commentary and can help lift my mood when it is seen online.

 @9K96WXZRepublican answered…1yr1Y

I may say things to my friends that seem completely awful and wrong but it's just a way my friends and I joke. Call it dark humour if you must.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

How do you decide when satire effectively critiques society versus when it's simply mocking without purpose?

 @9HKYLLNfrom Guam  answered…2yrs2Y

I think it can only be seen by the author's intentions with their work of satire. Mocking people without purpose is not illegal, though I think it's quite crude, so I don't think we should judge works of satire based on their effectiveness.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

I feel like people should try to lift up their own ideas, not take down anyone else's. and if your ideas ARE to take down other innocent people, then maybe your ideas shouldn't exist.

Its harmful, it reinforces stereotypes and prejudices against marginalized groups..

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Can a piece of satire affect the reputation of a political figure, and should the potential consequences be a concern?

 @9HLKB4M from Colorado  answered…2yrs2Y

I think satire used as a way to express opinions or oppose/challenge certain ideals should definitely be allowed because that is a part of free speech. However, if it's made with the intent to harm someone's reputation and/or ruin their life in some way, that's harmful and should be more restricted.

 @9HLK9DXfrom New York  answered…2yrs2Y

Not as long as stated as satire. Politics is a rough and tumble occupation and requires a thick skin

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

 @9H678FZ from Missouri  answered…2yrs2Y

I do not think so, unless the satire can be classified as an act of treason.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Do you believe satire can cause actual harm, or is it always just harmless humor?

 @9H3TBWW from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Well done satire is meant to be digestible but bitter; it is political as well as literary. Satire toes a line, but it always has--definitionally. It isn't meant to be harmless; it is meant to cause change. The issue is how the satire is digested and disseminated. Can any information, shared without proper context, cause harm? Yes. Therefore, satire can cause actual harm, but just as any number of statements shared thoughtlessly or lacking context can.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

How would you feel if a satirical piece targeted something you deeply care about?

 @9H565R6Women’s Equality from Ohio  answered…2yrs2Y

I would keep it to myself as long as they aren't bothering me with and if i does bother me a lot i'll speak up about it and let them know it makes me feel the way it makes me feel.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

When satire mimics reality closely, how does it influence your perception of the truth?

 @9K9THC8 from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

I do my own research, so if it makes me think, I'll research the topic instead of letting it form my opinion. People can make great arguments but aren't always right. Satire is a form of speech and should be protected.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Can satire bridge the gap between opposing political views, or does it deepen the divide?

 @9H7HNWGIndependent from New York  answered…2yrs2Y

Can bridge. It’s been around forever. People are far too eager to cancel things these days and it is annoying. Grab some humor. It’s free.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y
