What role should education play in shaping an individual's understanding and expression of patriotism?

 @9H7V25R from Colorado  answered…2yrs2Y

Understand the country you live in via history, learn the history of your country and make out what you will about it, everyone has their own views of it, but do not force politics or believes of your own as this is a personal thing.

 @9H8NY8Y  from Nebraska  answered…2yrs2Y

Schools are meant to teach students about anything and everything that they may need in the future and to be an informed citizen of the US. This means that uncomfortable topics such as rape law and slavery must be taught in schools, no matter what some people may say.

 @9H8N22J from West Virginia  answered…2yrs2Y

I think schooling should just give facts, and let kids use those facts to make their own opinions.

 @9HCCT87from Virgin Islands  answered…2yrs2Y

People should be taught the history of their countries and be proud of their nation, but also understand the mistakes and crimes all governments commit against minorities and other contries. Also people should be taught to respect other countries and nationalities, everyone are humand beings and no one should suffer any prejudice.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

If someone criticizes your country, how does it make you feel, and how do you respond?

 @9JGXJ47 from Ohio  answered…1yr1Y

I usually agree with them because the United States has issues like any other country and citizens should comment on it.

United States has issues like any other country

I agree with that, but you should also do a counter agruement as well, unless you don't have any pride in your country.

 @9JH533T from Ohio  agreed…1yr1Y

The United States is extremely problematic as a country and has many things to be fixed. Just as most criticize other countries, other countries criticize us.

 @9JGX4LW from Missouri  answered…1yr1Y

It makes me feel aggravated, but I have the capability to respect other peoples opinions.

 @9JH53DRIndependent from Illinois  agreed…1yr1Y

This is a free speech country, even though I wasn’t born here, people may have opinions and that is their decision I should respect them. Of course it’s going to feel wrong but people have different opinions.

 @9JGZZ2HIndependentanswered…1yr1Y

 @9J2P59XSocialist from New Jersey  answered…1yr1Y

There is a fine line between loving your country and wanting nothing but the best for it and thinking you are better than everyone else.

Not unless your country's communist, then they are the best & people should be like it, if America was Communist, you'd certainly wish for the best for it.

How can fostering a sense of patriotism in young people benefit or harm our future society?

 @9JCRGMT from Tennessee  answered…1yr1Y

A sense of patriotism is good in the sense that it can make people want to better our country and not take action against anyone or anything in this country while giving people something to connect over. On the flip side, it can cause people to blindly trust politicians and foster hate for people not included in this patriotism.

 @9JH4ZG2 from New Jersey  agreed…1yr1Y

I think some people become too obsessed with America that they become close minded and arent respectful to other backgrounds and that could cause issues in our country.

 @9JBF3RM from New Jersey  answered…1yr1Y

It would benefit our future society because having the identity of our country helps support it.

 @9JBFDDC from Oklahoma  answered…1yr1Y

It can benefit society by creating a sense of community, however it will cause beliefs that will lead to more war.

 @9JBFFG6 from Oklahoma  answered…1yr1Y

What is the role of education in developing a balanced sense of patriotism among students?

 @9J2YCVJWomen’s Equality from Alabama  answered…1yr1Y

Students should be obliged to all forms of education not just what their country wants them to know.

 @9J48GC2 from Pennsylvania  disagreed…1yr1Y

Students should be encouraged to learn as much as possible but other nations have a distorted view of the world and thought their view should be made available to students because more info is better than less. They should be taught the failures of those opposing views.

 @9J2YQ5X from Maine  answered…1yr1Y

Education should be focused on showing the history of the country, and not overly push Patriotism.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Why might someone believe that national unity is more important than individual opinions or beliefs?

 @9HDWRW2Republican from Florida  answered…2yrs2Y

If our country can not be together and get along then how are we supposed to stay strong.

 @9HDWP3DRepublican from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

National Unity is what makes us a strong people. Together we have the ability to combat larger problems.

 @9HDWLZQ from Nevada  answered…2yrs2Y

One persons saying doesn't make as much of an impact as multiple people coming together to form an opinion.

 @9HDX65H from Virginia  answered…2yrs2Y

People believe this because our country has been turned to crap by people being treating other humans like garbage.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

If you could change one thing about your country while retaining your national identity, what would it be?

 @9JHWG7YPeace and Freedom from Nevada  answered…1yr1Y

Stop electing old ancient people who clearly struggle to make choices. And stop allowing the funding to countries who have nothing to do with ours and instead fix economic issues here in the U.S.

 @9JL9RNLagreed…1yr1Y

I feel as our relationship with the President of America is exactly as an absent father, calls and asks what you need and makes the promise that it will be granted, hangs up and ignores you until he needs validation. Please lord, sound the trumpets.

 @9JJX7R4  from North Carolina  agreed…1yr1Y

I am against the part about electing old people. I believe that wisdom comes with age. I do agree that we need to fix the homefront first.

 @9HTNT5V from Nevada  commented…2yrs2Y

Yes, the media is a huge influence and can most definitely shape your patriotic beliefs. Today media is a huge thing and its almost impossible to not catch a glimpse of something political. Although it's not ideal I do believe the media is a great platform to campaign and gain voters.

Why might someone argue that being a patriot also requires being a critic of their own country?

 @9HD24G6 from Colorado  answered…2yrs2Y

Blind loyalty to a country is dangerous, especially under the guise of a buzzword like patriotism. If we are not questioning the actions our government partakes, then we will never grow and evolve to meet the needs of an ever changing population.

Is patriotism always a positive force in society, or can it lead to exclusion and discrimination?

 @9H46LH9Democrat from Illinois  answered…2yrs2Y

it can be a positive force, pride in one own's culture is a beautiful thing. however, devaluing others' cultures/countries to promote your own is strictly destructive and counterproductive.

 @9H46K8BLibertarian  from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Patriotism is not always a positive force, as too much of it could lead to a national dissent of immigrants. However, every country needs some patriotism, as it unifies the people together.

How can youths contribute to their nation's well-being while also advocating for change?

 @9HJFQ7P  from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Young people can contribute to their nation's well-being by staying informed, engaging in community projects, advocating for change through peaceful means, participating in politics, fostering entrepreneurship and innovation, promoting environmental stewardship, facilitating civic education, championing inclusivity, leveraging technology and media for activism, and maintaining a commitment to continuous learning and open-mindedness.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

How do ethical considerations shape our patriotic actions, like whistleblowing on national issues?

 @9HJJTS3 from Massachusetts  answered…2yrs2Y

Patriotism and nationalism seem to be inherently immoral. They often prioritize the well-being of the nation over individuals. Such an ideology can be used to justify aggression via the government upon civilians. So, all governments should be dissolved while people should love their neighbors, and their enemies, just as they love themselves.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Should patriotism encourage a stronger focus on local governance and issues?

 @9J2P9R8 from Wisconsin  answered…1yr1Y

Absolutely. Apart of patriotism is a strong focus on local government. Local governments hold the highest level of power over the day to day lives of citizens, and being an active member of local government should be promoted.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Would you choose to defend your country's values or its actions, if they conflicrated?

 @9J2PHXN from California  answered…1yr1Y
