Politically, it advocates for a democratic system where the working class has a leading role in governance, arguing that true democracy cannot exist under capitalism, where economic power translates into political power.<br /><br />On social issues, the American Communist Party has historically championed civil rights, gender equality, and the rights of marginalized communities. It opposes all forms of discrimination and imperialism, advocating for a foreign policy based on peace, solidarity with oppressed peoples worldwide, and environmental sustainability.<br /><br />Despite its ambitious goals, the CPUSA has never gained significant political power in the United States, partly due to the strong anti-communist sentiment during the Cold War and the association of communism with authoritarian regimes in other parts of the world.
