How would you feel about the currency you use every day changing if your region became a separate country?

 @9JJSRTP from Georgia  answered…1yr1Y

 @Oryanna-J. from California  answered…1yr1Y

I believe the currency we use should be up to the decision of all people. If we did use the same currency I wouldn't oppose but also creating our own currency would allow us to fully sever the ties of the move to our own country. It would give room for us to be truly our own but it takes a lot to do make that change for our currency.

 @9JJT2ZP from Illinois  answered…1yr1Y

I'd be pretty upset that all my money is now useless and I have to learn how to interpret a new currency

If your local sports team was to represent a newly independent region, would it change your sense of pride or support for the team?

 @9KPWTKZ from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Not entirely, it is dependent on their reason for relocation of their representation. If they chose to do so, then I would harbor no ill will towards them, nor would I feel a need to support them further and I would hope that they continue to be great. If they were forced to do so, because of whatever exterior forces pushed them, then it would make me wish to support them even further.

 @9KPW4G7 from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

I think there should be no separatism in sports, because is lowers the opportunities for individuals

How has your personal history and ancestry shaped your views on the concept of having a separate state or nation?

 @9JFCM79 from Louisiana  answered…1yr1Y

It has not. The U.S.A needs to correct our various problems prior to getting involved in outer issues, unless it directly affects the wellbeing of our country.

 @9JKPZVY from Tennessee  agreed…1yr1Y

We need to stop fighting in wars that do not matter. After Osama Bin Laden was killed, we stayed in the Middle East for years, losing countless American lives for no reason.

 @9JG4QVNDemocrat from Texas  disagreed…1yr1Y

Although the US does need to deal with our own issues, but we have to consider that issues in other countries will eventually make it to is soil.

What moral or ethical considerations come to mind when you think of one group separating from another?

 @9HZMSTF from Georgia  answered…1yr1Y

I feel separatism is not necessary and take us back in time. Everyone should be able to co-exist and work together regardless of differences. Separatism could create increased resentment and hatred amongst groups.

 @9HZLWKS  from Washington  answered…1yr1Y

There is no reason for separation we are all human beings and should be treated like so.

 @9HZLTR4  from Colorado  answered…1yr1Y

Separatism should rely on a basis separate from what you are given at birth not including sexual orientation.

 @9HZLQZYGreen from Michigan  answered…1yr1Y

Whether they are doing it to oppress someone else, or whether the separation can be peaceful.

Reflect on a time when you felt misunderstood or overlooked by your national government; would independence alleviate these feelings?

 @9HZRRJJLibertarian from California  answered…1yr1Y

During the 2016 elections, my parents and I were watching the Trump campaign when we heard him refer to Mexican immigrants as animals. I come from a family of Mexican immigrants. Was I, Montserrat, an animal? Was my immigrant father, whose dream was to come to America, an animal?
Growing up I've always seen my family as a typical Mexican-American family, proud of where they come from but grateful for the land of opportunity. I remember that money was always tight, so my dad took on weekends working extra hours. This caused me to rarely see him. However, no matter how stressed my parents…  Read more

I felt overlooked by the national government when the government decided to go forward with abortion laws almost essentially banning it which made me feel that not many outside opinions or the populations opinion were considered for the most part and only cared for the few with power.

 @9HZMWP2  from Michigan  answered…1yr1Y

As an Asian woman, I feel that the government is not doing enough to keep me safe against those who feel asian hate.

What do you consider a legitimate reason for a community to want to govern itself independently?

 @9HT79LNJustice party member from Rhode Island  answered…1yr1Y

If a community wants to govern itself independently, then the truth of the matter would be that they want to create their laws in that individual community and share ideas for what they want that community to look like.

In your opinion, do the benefits of separatism outweigh the potential for increased division and turmoil?

 @9H7YJQ7answered…2yrs2Y

there are few benefits of separatism, and I think the US progresses better as a complete nation

 @9H7XV5YVeteran from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes because you are segregating the groups instead of having them together.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

If your local community's primary language became the official language of a newly independent state, how would that make you feel?

 @9KNH6S5Democrat from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

English should be the official language in the United States, but people should be able to use whatever language they would like with friends and family.

 @9KNGS8D from Oregon  answered…1yr1Y

I believe a national language creates a large divide in those that don't speak it.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

From your perspective, what would be the greatest challenge and the most significant benefit of a successful separatist movement?

 @9LDLGYP from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Greatest Challenge is the legality, and unity of a separationist movement within the US. I do not see much benefit in separatism. I think it would decrease national unity, legitimacy of federal government, security in North America, and more.

Should the cultural significance of a region play a role in its political autonomy; why or why not?

 @9KLS5FK  from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

I think a more federal centric government would be best rather than state centric.
Why? I have lived in Tennessee and Texas and I noticed a LOWER quality of education for Tennesseean kids. These both states are Republicans and yet the standard of education is super varied.
This made me realized to push for more federal ways rather than let states do whatever they want.
I understand some states like Texas want to separate.
I honestly think it's not a good idea for Texas to do this.

 @9KJ2GF5 from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

its not true people just like to cry about anything that hurts there feelings

 @9KJ29GF from Illinois  answered…1yr1Y

If you dont give everyone a voice, are you really trying to build a stable government? You truly have to advocate to everyone in your nation that is hoping for you to provide them what they need.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

How often do you encounter cultural or linguistic barriers that make you consider the benefits of governing your own community?

 @9JFBXVJanswered…1yr1Y

People shouldn't be blamed for being raised in another country or continent, and then come here and not be able to understand anything, because they might not have come here on their own choice. So, none at all.

 @9JFBWKG from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

None, I believe what makes all cultures unique is the fact that we can come together and combine or alter cultures in a beautiful manner.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

Can you think of a time when being part of a larger group felt limiting rather than empowering?

 @9HYBQJXPeace and Freedom from California  answered…1yr1Y

In response to separatism, I can probably imagine a world of "white supremacy". This most likely happened when slavery was allowed. I do not support white supremacy.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

How would you describe the feeling of pride or concern when hearing discussions about your region wanting to form its own state?

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Is there a historical example of separatism you find inspirational or problematic?

 @9HPQG59 from Maryland  answered…2yrs2Y

Segregation of blacks, discriminations against Jews, Irish, and Hispanics, and Indian reservations

Do you think cultural differences justify the creation of a new nation?

 @9H3QNFX from New York  answered…2yrs2Y

Separatism is a multi-faceted topic, with cultural differences being merely one of the several reasons a state or region may wish to separate away from the Union.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

What role do you see for immigrant communities in the dialogue around a region seeking independence?

 @9KTKZS3 from Oregon  answered…1yr1Y

In the geographic sense I support it. Far Eastern Russia has little in common with the Moscow bloc of Russia. French colonial territories have nothing in common with heartland France. I don’t believe immigrants have any real bearing in either direction for or against separatism.
