I guarantee you'll be begging for the police back in like 2 days. You base your opinion on what the media tells you. Do your research.
@9H38RDN2yrs2Y
hell yes we need the police to keep everyone safe, if we dont then people will just break into things and places and no one can do anyhting about it.
@9GXNV85Republican2yrs2Y
Yes I do. Police training could be improved, but defunding them would provoke the exact opposite effect. Police are a keystone in holding a modern society together
@9GXJNMKWomen’s Equality2yrs2Y
I agree, I think that certain areas should be funded more. Like more crime-populated areas. I don't think I'd base most of my opinion on the media though. I like to look at both sides.
@9GSFV5VRepublican 2yrs2Y
Places that have reduced spending on police officers open themselves up to more crime and it has been proven by multiple studies.
@9GSGN5C2yrs2Y
I agree, however there have been reckless acts of violence committed in the past bu police officers, so therefore police funding should stay up but also work harder to hire nicer, hardworking, empathetic officers.
@9FG8N8X 2yrs2Y
The police are a strong deterrent for local crime, and the quality of the police department combined with the nature of local people are a large factor in crime.
@9GJBMPG 2yrs2Y
we need police to keep citizens safe, and it is better than community organizations because it is organized and there is proper training. racism also isnt a big problem with policing and it is over blown on tv. George Floyd even had a lethal dose of fentanal inside of him and was about to die of an overdose.
@9GJD49T2yrs2Y
The police should be defunded because they already get enough money and they don't need that much stuff they need equipment which they need but the extra stuff they do not need they do not need to upgrade there guns to bigger guns
@9GTRFJSRepublican 2yrs2Y
This is incorrect. Police officers need all the equipment they can get in order to deal with new threats all the time. Many police stations are actually under-funded as well.
Also, they aren't "upgrading their guns to bigger guns." The biggest guns they typically need are rifles or non-lethal weapons like a beanbag gun.
@9GJCWGN2yrs2Y
The George Floyd situation wasn't just on the cops though, as he was under substance and could've been capable of anything. I'm afraid I have to disagree with how they handled it with his knee to Georges's neck. But, taking this situation and then basing our whole police system off it is kind of ridiculous. There are good cops and bad cops but whenever a bad cop is found to be corrupted they do face the punishments as any other would. This shows you how they are taking precautions towards the corruptness through the government as you will obviously have the good and bad sides of things.
@9GJD9XB2yrs2Y
I feel like the "Defund the police" was a very stupid move and hurt our country, crime skyrocket and even in some city's, the crime rate is still high.
@9G3Q3TSRepublican 2yrs2Y
This would lead to total chaos in larger cities because twisted individuals would take advantage and crime would run rampant.
@9G3QZN22yrs2Y
I agree. If there was no consequence for a criminals actions why would they not steal, murder, and commit other crimes.
@9HQHVZR 2yrs2Y
The police serve to keep us safe, and while their are undeniably some examples of police exerting excessive force to enforce laws, the vast majority of officers are good people who want to protect their community. By abolishing the police we would live in a state with no guaranteed protection for its citizens. While it is tempting to hope that people would be willing to set aside their differences and set aside violence, the reality is that there would be mass crime with no figures of authority available to enforce the law. The absence of police would also create a vacuum of power that would attract groups that would perform biased and unfair vigilante justice that would cause more harm than good.
@9HQJ3DS 2yrs2Y
Exactly! The police are too defended already, which is why some states allow shoplifting, cops don't get proper response training and they are always late. The laws job is to protect our rights not to take them away and funding the police as of now can only add to the protection of our rights. By removing them we accept anarchy.
@9HQBQJD 2yrs2Y
Without the police, we'd live in a place without order. Yes, we have laws, but the point of the police is to enforce those laws.
@9HQD33Y2yrs2Y
Police are essential and should be given all of the support required, and should be supported against criminals in all situations
@9HQCSGQ2yrs2Y
Respect for authority is a hallmark of civilized societies. When consequences of improper behavior are not inconvenient or uncomfortable the person has no reason to change. Fear is a great motivator and few people fear consequences in recent society. Rules have value and enforcing rules fairly/uniformly keeps people safe, secure, and content.
@9GFBB8K2yrs2Y
Police keep us safe, you cannot argue that police brutality has and continues to be a big issue in several countries but the fact of the matter is that most likely without them at all, all hell would break loose.
@9GFNHQ2Independent2yrs2Y
There are not as many police brutality incidents as people may think there are. The statistics are only being partially shown.
@9GLJNRF2yrs2Y
How are you going to defend yourself because the people who vote for this also want the 2nd amendment to be abolished? Who do they think is going to save them if I rob them at knife or gunpoint if they don't have access to police or weapons?
@9GLKHBH 2yrs2Y
This statement is true, everyone has the right to be safe and defunding the police is a proven terrible idea.
@9GLK8G52yrs2Y
NO, the police should not be defunded, they are the ones who protects the Average U.S. citizen and it is bad enough that 70% full for all types of departments across the nation.
@9HPSYDZ 2yrs2Y
If there is no powerful body that will back the community against criminals, find kidnapped victims, guide through real time crises,etc everything will be in shambles. Police exists to keep order and hold accountable the individual that violate that order. Some argue the community itself can protect eachother but that's not enough nor efficient. Instead of defunding the police focus on making sure the police officer who committed the crime is held accountable.
@9HPXC4R2yrs2Y
Yes, I agree. No one will deny that there are some bad police officers however the police are a required necessity for a person's life. We should focus our interest in weeding out the bad police officers and appointing new ones. Training for cops could also be made more difficult and pay raises should be an order for those serving who do well.
@9FM6WYF2yrs2Y
Social programs aren't going to stop criminals from committing crimes. Areas with a strong police presence are always safer than those without them.
@9GRSFND2yrs2Y
Police are trained professionals and are necessary to keep peace in communities. Defunding the police is one of the most reckless things a community can do. Look at the exponential spike in crime rates in Chicago for example.
@9FLXJLQ2yrs2Y
Police are here to help protect the citizens from any danger that occurs as they put their life on the line to help protect and serve their country/state.
@9FDC8672yrs2Y
I think police with a questionable background, and history of complaints should absolutely be held accountable on all accounts. however, abolishing police is probably the dumbest idea weve ever had as a species, anarchy would ensue, general peace officers and all form of law enforcement are all necessary for society to function.
@9FF99Q42yrs2Y
You should not defund the police, they need to be funded enough to protect our communities or the crime levels will rise and less people will be safe.
@9GSXTFN2yrs2Y
Less police will only make them more trigger happy and feel unsafe. More officers would give more time for training on deescalation training and community policing.
@9GR33F42yrs2Y
Without the police America would break into chaos and in places where they have abolished the police the crime rates grew and they needed to bring the police back.
@9FNN6V6Republican2yrs2Y
The police are a very valuable thing in the United States and should always be a thing to protect the citizens of our country
@9FMZBXKRepublican2yrs2Y
Without a strong police force, violent crime would become more apparent and dangerous to the general public. while yes there are often a few bad cops who do disgusting things, we need the police force.
@9FLPQCT2yrs2Y
I think that anyone who says that we should defund the police need to open their minds and realize what would happen if we did something like that, it would cause mass casualties and chaos.
@9FG6CKLIndependent2yrs2Y
Police are a necessity to the United States due to homicide rates as well as other crime rates like drug rate.
@9GWZBKZ2yrs2Y
Whether you like it or not, the Police are the ones that are keeping the general public out of danger every day from dangerous criminals.
@9FLX3VV2yrs2Y
Defunding the police would lead to an already increasing crime rate. People would be too scared to leave thier houses. People would also have no conciuqences to thier actions which would let people do what ever they want to.
@9FLJJ4LIndependent2yrs2Y
How do you expect to stay safe without the police, who do you expect to uphold the law. Cause you're not going to be screaming defund the police when someone assaults you cause you got a **** surgically put onto your body.
@9FLZQZG2yrs2Y
Who do you plan on calling when you need someone to save you? Whom do you think is going to come to your aid to protect you when someone is trying to hurt you or worse?
@9FLGL3N2yrs2Y
Crime is already at a high enough rate in the U.S and defunding the police wouldn't improve the system it would only make it worse and make police training even worse.
@9GVK88WRepublican2yrs2Y
Don't defund the police, they have done so much for their communities that it's just awful and weird to not give them recognition for their services, just my arguement, and also they're up day and night to protect and serve.
@9GF3RP32yrs2Y
You can't abolish the police department because then crime rates would skyrocket and the country would get worse.
@9GCZ3J52yrs2Y
People aren't understanding the real risk of not having armed Police, that are able to serve and help save lives all across the US with extended training that's provided by the state.
@9FG3FHQ2yrs2Y
Policemen or women aren't all bad. There are some who might make mistakes or do things that make humans mad, however, they try to protect us and sometimes it gets out of hand. If there was no police, each and every place in America would be destroyed by criminals.
@9FNQCCKRepublican2yrs2Y
No we should not, if we abolished the police many more people would die, their would be many more people that become victim's to things.
@9FNPF2V2yrs2Y
When you defund / abolish the police there is literally no going back, no one to make rules maintain peace or even keep us safe as individuals. If your house gets broken into a week after you successfully defund the police, who are you gonna call?
@9FMR6F72yrs2Y
If you believe the police are ineffective or corrupt, defunding them will only make that worse and it will cut training which will make them less prepared for situations and more likely to make mistakes, possibly resulting in the deaths of officers, suspects, and bystanders. By defunding the police, we are only making problems worse which completely invalidates the defunding or abolishing the police argument. Without law enforcement, crime would be unimaginably high.
@9FJFKKR2yrs2Y
I think defunding the police isn’t smart. Without police we wouldn’t be safe or be held accountable for our actions.
If we get rid of the police, crime rates will increase and the community will not be complete. Without the police, the roads will be more dangerous and there won't be any civil way to resolve conflicts. Without police, law will not be properly enforced.
@VulcanMan6 2yrs2Y
Statistically this is the opposite. Police do not prevent crime, they just respond to it; we prevent crime by guaranteeing people access to food, shelter, healthcare, education, transportation, and all the fundamental basic needs of living a fulfilling and healthy life.
@9CJ6CB62yrs2Y
Yeah, they always try to address crime by being tough on it, but no one addresses the EXTEREMELY obvious causes.
@9FM2WRTRepublican2yrs2Y
Cities, towns and states will enter a lawless frenzy. There will be no accountability and crime will increase.
@9FLK24Y2yrs2Y
Don't because some families live on the money that the police earn for keeping the country safe and not all cops are bad people
@9FM2KNL2yrs2Y
Who will you send to s scene? Social workers? What next, you give them a gun and a bulletproof vest, so they are protected? Now you just created another police department. Abolishing and defunding the police is the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
@9FMPSH92yrs2Y
Abolishing the police system is going to lead the country to tyranny because there is no system to enforce the laws of the United States.
@9GBC94G2yrs2Y
No, they are a necessity to the community and the country to ensure safety, tranquility, and peace. That is the main job of the police.
@9FRMXMW2yrs2Y
Stripping police departments of their funding would make the quality of mental health screenings and cadet training decrease.
@9FRPNNG2yrs2Y
I wholeheartedly agree with this comment. Most of the funding for the police goes into 3 things; Equipment, training, and of course, screenings. Stripping the police of their budget would result in less qualified officers that are more of a danger to the public. That's just my two cents.
@9GK9KQ5Libertarian2yrs2Y
Police officers are crucial to order especially in the inner cities. We need them to serve and protect or else. we won't have any identity to fight crime.
@9GY32KP2yrs2Y
How would the community function as the Police better than the Police? Abolishing the Police would result in an immediate increase in crime, and our cities would become horrible places to live. The Police keep more together in our country than we give them credit for.
@9FQQVMRIndependent2yrs2Y
The police provide an essential service to our society. Without them, crime would go unchecked. And no, crime cannot be placed back in check by only non-forceful agencies.
@9HB2L722yrs2Y
If we defund the police the public crime rates would sky rocket and we wouldn't have defense against it.
@9FRX3BB2yrs2Y
what are you going to do if someone robs you. without police to enforce laws there is nothing stopping people from breaking them, and with the fact that, when there is no one to stop someone from committing a crime against you, you're in more danger.
@9FG8CWW2yrs2Y
I think that is a dumb argument. Police protect the people and in force law on wrong doers. if there is no person protecting the people then criminals will have no one to fear and we would be left to protect ourselves
@9FSLYZGRepublican2yrs2Y
If we abolish the police there will be less people to deescalate situations and crie rates will sky rocket because there will be none to stop it.
As soon as something bad happens to someone, the police is the first thing they think of for help. What if we didn’t have help? What if we had to suffer these horrible events by ourselves? The police is there to help. Although I agree that some officers abuse their power, it’s not all of them. The majority genuinely want to help. What happens if your house is being robbed? Who are you gonna call? What if something traumatic is happening to you or happened to you? Who will you call, or who will you go to to get justice? The police.
I believe without police, there are many people in the United States who would take advantage of that in any way they can, from committing serious crimes to just not abiding by laws like speed limits.
@9FLGSLRConstitution2yrs2Y
The police are very important. They offer us protection and are not actually racist. It does not matter if you are black or white, but if you are committing a crime or not. And that is what the police believe too.
@9H3S7JK2yrs2Y
Abolishing the police will plunge the nation into a purge like state. Crime will rise by astronomical rates and America will become lawless.
@9GP75ZB2yrs2Y
Abolishing the police only makes our country unsafe. Men and Women in blue risk their lives every day to protect others and deserve more than fair pay.
@9GP6R8F2yrs2Y
Defunding the police is not the answer your just going to make the problem worse. If you want better policing they need better training and better everything, without money they wont be possible.
@9FLXKSD2yrs2Y
My best counter argument to this is that the same people that are saying to abolish the police are the same people that are going to call them when in danger.
@9FN9VQKRepublican2yrs2Y
If you think we should defund the police then you haven't worked with this generations kids... accountability in the home hardly exists anymore. Crime is bad now, once these kids are adults, it's going to be worse. Do not remove our enforcers of accountability in adults or we will never be safe.
@9GYM6YZ2yrs2Y
Don’t because the place in which they abolish the police will become over run with crime and become inhabitable. I am never living somewhere without police. You’ve also just put thousands of people out of jobs
@VulcanMan6 2yrs2Y
Police do not solve or prevent the issues of crime, they only respond to it. To actually address and alleviate crime we need to improve the material conditions of the public, which police do not do...
@9FPMFYWRepublican2yrs2Y
I believe the police should not be defunded because they are the ones that keep the place in order and without them there is a lot of things we would not have and not be able too do and they risk there lives everyday.
@9GZSNQRRepublican2yrs2Y
If you still want to be able to walk around at night or go to a park with your kids in the summer without worrying wether or not you will get robbed, raped, or killed then you will keep the police so that they can keep our peace and safety open for us to use.
@VulcanMan6 2yrs2Y
Police don't help with that, and the police even do that themselves sometimes. If we want to alleviate crime then we need robust systems of public services and social safety nets, not police...
@9GQ7JTS2yrs2Y
Abolishing the police would allow for crime to run rampant in the country. It is insane to think that getting rid of them would help the country in any way, shape, or form.
@9G33XB72yrs2Y
If a man with a gun comes to your home to hurt you, who are you gonna call for help? Someone with a knife? Untrained? No, you will want the police then and with many other instances.
@VulcanMan6 2yrs2Y
If someone with a gun comes into my home to hurt me...then I'm dead. What good are the police going to do for me? No one wants the police at their house, we want people to stop getting guns and to stop doing crimes, and newsflash: police do not prevent that.
@HareAlexandraPatriot2yrs2Y
Consider the case in New York City in the 1990s. The city was facing a crime epidemic until new policing strategies were implemented, including a greater police presence in high crime areas. This led to a significant drop in crime rates. If the police can't prevent all crime, how can we effectively reduce it and ensure public safety? Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
@VulcanMan6 2yrs2Y
The most significant root cause of crime is poverty, which we solve not through further incarceration, but by improving the material conditions of the public as a whole. Guaranteeing quality food, shelter, healthcare, education, transportation, and all the other basic human needs for a fulfilling and healthy life in the modern world would do infinitely more to prevent crime than any amount of violent police presence can.
@9H2RYMY2yrs2Y
The police are a key component of systematic oppression and racism against POC, perpetuating violence...The police are also a gateway towards the PIC (Prison Industrial Complex}. Police don't protect! They harm, murder and protect other cops and the elite.
@9GHLBFGCA Common Sense2yrs2Y
No do not Abolish the police. Yes there is some corrupt cops but cops are there to help us and they do. Cops are payed to keep us safe and they are payed to do the right thing.
@9GNNZWC2yrs2Y
Defunding the police is stupid, and without the police, we will have no one to protect us. If anything police should earn more.
@9GLT6M92yrs2Y
The police are in place to protect the public, and the cops who are involved in legitimate cases of an issue should be put on trial. There are more good cops than bad cops, and abolishing the police would leave everyone unprotected in case of an emergency.
@9GKJ98B2yrs2Y
The police do a lot to keep our country safe and people should not be saying to defund the police because of a couple corrupt officers.
@9GLW4Y42yrs2Y
Police have a very difficult job and they need the money to help keep a community safe. Instead of defending the police we should find different ways to teach police and how to confront systemic racism.
@9GGJ2PD2yrs2Y
You can't abolish the police, they play such a crucial role. Everything would go to chaos without them.
@9GKGX692yrs2Y
Abolishing the police would lead to a purely crime filled world, in which there would be no justice for criminals, essentially a state of nature.
@9GGRY9J2yrs2Y
no the police should not be defunded or abolished because who would keep people safe and uphold the law
@9HQLSDV2yrs2Y
Abolishing the police will lead to much higher crime rates, and you wont have any protection from anybody, the topic of abolishing police is just pure stupidity.
@9HQ9P9Z2yrs2Y
Police are the people who can protect us when crime happens, not all police are bad however the police who do crime on duty should be charged.
@9FP36ZF2yrs2Y
The men and women of the police force are who maintain the law and order in America. If their funding is cut then the crime rate in America will substantially increase.
@9H2NPFK2yrs2Y
Police is one way to keep people from breaking the law, some people do get away with it, but the police helps victims get the justice they need.
