they should not raise the minimum wage. If they do prices will rise and therefore it would do nothing and make a continuing cycle.

 @9GKZCH7  from Illinois  disagreed…2yrs2Y

You should not raise the minimum wage. Smaller businesses will go out of business and then we will live in corporate America. When you also raise the minimum wage then everything will go up.

 @9GL3LPV from Kentucky  agreed…2yrs2Y

I completely agree that is evidently how the economy works, even when women had gone into the workforce everything had gotten more expensive.

 @9FYLDMH from New York  disagreed…2yrs2Y

A 16 year old does not need to make a living wage. Increasing pay for all minimum wage workers will just drive up the costs of everything, in turn will increase the cost of living, which will cause an increase in minimum wage, a never ending cycle.

 @9FYP482Socialist from Virginia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

This hypothetical reach of a scenario doesn't include the fact that many teenagers who work help their families or save for later. Everyone deserves a living wage, otherwise, companies get to profit from the exploitation of the workers' labor.

 @9FYNPTXDemocrat from Georgia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

This statement is likely coming from the same people who believe that a 16-year-old should be denied the option of abortion and fully care for a baby on her own. How can one generalize that a 16-year-old doesn't "need" to make a living wage? People who have a job at 16 years old likely stay with that job or similar ones for many years to come. This means they are also getting that same pay with very minimal raises and chances for advancements. Denying a living wage for 16-year-olds is denying a living wage for those in their mid-twenties. The argument that increasing wages will increase the cost of living quite literally does not make sense. When in reality what has been happening is that the cost of living is rising exponentially, and wages are remaining the same.

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia  commented…2yrs2Y

A 16 year old isn’t the only one working at McDonald’s, not to mention that so many of their workers don’t have many other options despite being on the doer side. A livable wage is essential to survival, and if that’s too much to ask, we have failed as a nation. The money could easily just come from the companies profits, especially with larger ones that have gained incredibly high returns.

 @9H4FW4C  from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

When minimum wage goes up, the cost of living will go up. There is no way for it to continuously be a “living wage” as a minimum wage worker.

 @9GQYWQL from Colorado  disagreed…2yrs2Y

 @9GVTL7Z from Ohio  agreed…2yrs2Y

Making a living wage would allow people to not need to work multiple jobs to provide for a family or themselves, putting them in a better position to live if they are able to get more money.

 @9GRBWVS from Oklahoma  agreed…2yrs2Y

Inflation has created an unlivable wage, as prices increase unproportionally to wages paid, and with the minimum wage already being low, it is like beating a horse while it's down. Not only that, but servers and those expected to earn tips are often paid even less, sometimes as little as $5/hour.

 @9FV7C9Jagreed…2yrs2Y

Modern minimum wage doesn't get you anything most of the time. Barely enough to put food on the table. IF YOU CAN EVEN AFFORD A TABLE

 @9H4MZHDSocialist from North Carolina  agreed…2yrs2Y

The minimum wage should at least pay enough so you can pay your taxes and buy food and other necessary things to live. You shouldn't need help from the government because your job doesn't pay enough. Everyone deserves to be able to live comfortably.

 @9FPRVGJDemocratfrom Vermont  agreed…2yrs2Y

With automation and AI, plus other productivity advancements over decades, we can't start working for pennies to compete against robots or overseas workers, because meanwhile inflation is going up

 @9GPQ4T8CA Common Sense from Iowa  agreed…2yrs2Y

Its a constitutional right and fundamental idea to have equal opportunity, and a living wage is able to ensure everyone who works, at least has some sort of opportunity. Furthermore, anything less than a minumum living wage is pretty much human’s rights abuse according to international law even.

 @9GQ6JL3Republican from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Minimum wage jobs should not be livable wages. They are entry-level jobs, and should be compensated as such.

 @9FRDCSJ from Virginia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

The business are going to have to increase their prices on their products to afford to pay their employee´s which will only drive inflation higher.

 @9GVKBTZ from Georgia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

A living wage established minimum wage discourages investment in education, an essential building block for a nation, and it disincentivizes investment into trades, an essential in the service economy. Wages rising with skill incentives investment into human capital, and minimum wage artificially increasing instantly stalls investments. Moreover, the prices of all goods at these minimum wage stores would go up, or they would just invest into technology to bypass paying this leading to higher unemployment in the long term and a large unskilled unemployed labor force dependent on help from others.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

 @9GT7GL5Republican from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Absolutly not, higher the minumum wage the more expensive things are. inflations already bad enough as it is

The more regulations the government creates, the worse and more expensive products and services become.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

It's not the government in charge of private production and services, so blame the private capital-owners who are responsible for those decisions...

 @9FTBBDW from New York  disagreed…2yrs2Y

No, I think that if someone wants to make a desired income they must work for that and prove to the business and government that you deserve that wage.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

What is even the purpose of working if wages don't even ensure a livable standard of existence?

 @9G9JS2W from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Whenever you raise minimum wage, it leads to companies raising prices of products to compensate, ultimately making your dollar able to buy the exact same amount of product if not less product as before.

 @9GHLWZG from Virginia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

If we raise the minimum wage, then everything will become more expensive and employers will be forced to fire people due to wages.

 @9GLZ4GJ from Florida  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Higher minimum wage does not help. Lowering taxs on businesses, stop strangling small buissness and they could pay more.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

This is literally just "trickle-down economics" and it has been an objective, colossal failure on the economy. It is the complete opposite of how to better an economy.

 @9G8YCN2Peace and Freedom from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

It would just cause everything to raise in prices and getting to a certain point cause the economical system to break down.

 @9F89XSN from Texas  agreed…2yrs2Y

If minimum wage isn't enough to live off of then the government is basically saying it is okay to be homeless or not survive.

 @9F7RPJ6 from Massachusetts  agreed…2yrs2Y

Making minimum wage a livable wage would mean that no matter what bracket you come from, you can make enough money to get by rather than struggling to live with the bare minimum.

 @9GSF4GJRepublican from Idaho  disagreed…2yrs2Y

 @9HJM9NJ from Minnesota  disagreed…2yrs2Y

One cannot increase the minimum wage and expect the economic climate not to shift in response. When minimum wage is increased, the price of goods and services increases, causing inflation, insofar as goods and services are not appreciably increased. When minimum wage increases, other wages increase in response as well, essentially landing everyone in exactly the same respective position.

If you cant afford to support your self you did something wrong and if you cant support others than don't. Its not my fault you cant get a real job because you don't have any skills worth paying for if you had something useful to someone you would be making as much moeny as anyone else.

 @9GVXCQTRepublican from Indiana  disagreed…2yrs2Y

With automation and AI, plus other productivity advancements over decades, we can't start working for pennies to compete against robots or overseas workers, because meanwhile inflation is going up. We need to be able to provide good jobs into the future with purpose for our citizens to be able to afford families where both parents don't have to be forced to work, we need to encourage those out of the job market to come off the sidelines and stay in the economy. If we bring these people off the sidelines and provide salaries that continue to increase with economic productivity, we can reverse a large amount of the suicide and drugs epidemic that has been worsening for years.

 @9GYWZBZ from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

When the federal wage is increased, all companies do is make their product more expensive, thereby null and voiding the whole purpose of the increased wages, because now the Standard of Living is up more, and the wages won't be able to keep up.

 @9FLPLD5 from Georgia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

No it is a positive feed back loop. Inflation increases with minimum wage. Companies will have to charge more for their products so that they can afford to pay their employees.

 @9GRZSKZ from Idaho  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Minimum wage is meant from starting off its not supposed to be a wage that you live and support a family or even yourself with.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

That is both historically and fundamentally untrue. When minimum wage was first instituted, it was specifically designed to be a livable wage for all* workers to have a fulfilling life (*there were structurally racist policies at the time that largely excluded many non-white people from min wage laws, but the point still stands that min wage was not meant as a "starter wage").

 @9FLMGQ5 from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Raising minimum wage won't do anything but cause everything else to skyrocket. The answer we need is to lower the cost of living.

 @9H4R84VPeace and Freedom from South Carolina  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Making it a living wage makes it to where people who earned college level degrees wasted money on loans to earn the great wage, and salary they earned.

 @2QS5R4KIndependent disagreed…2yrs2Y

Minimum wages just reduce the money that is available for workers within a company, causes costs of good sold to increase, and reduces productivity

 @9FSY2JZdisagreed…2yrs2Y

A living wage say is 20 dollars an hour. Well if McDonald's is now paying their employees 20 an hour, that drives the cost of their prices up, drives the price of a college degree, meaning businesses need to pay their employees more to pay for the increase in cost of living.

 @9GCBN6X  from Ohio  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Do a job that provides more value to your employer. Raising the minimum wage would not make minimum wage a living wage. It would just raise what the standard of living costs.

 @9FT52X4 from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

By making it a minimum wage for those who are working those jobs you are making life harder and making salaried employees wages not so liviable anymore and hurting the regular people due to inflation

 @9GDQNNF from Missouri  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Increasing the minimum wage simply devalues the American dollar and will cause everything to be more expensive.

 @9GF6LX8 from Wisconsin  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Minimum wage jobs are typically low skill intensive, beginner jobs at McDonald's or big box retailers. They are not as intensive as jobs with living wages, such as doctors, or engineers. They are meant to be a learning experience and a way for the youth of America to feel independence.

 @9FWSNZKRepublican from Illinois  disagreed…2yrs2Y

This will just lead to higher costs of inflation and the salaries of other workers will rise at rates higher than minimum wage. Thus, widening the gap even further

 @9FXCM48Independent from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Minimum wage has to be set in order for our economy to function correctly because if all minimum wage was increased, sales tax and other items would all increase in price causing mass inflation.

 @9FVVQJW from Minnesota  disagreed…2yrs2Y

.because when you raise minimum wage everything gets more expensive and it eventually isn't a living wage anymore. it is a continuous cycle that causes inflation

 @9FZW4QG from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Minimum wage is just that, minimum. It was established to keep employers from exploiting employees. It was not established to be a living wage. That is earned. Whether it takes 2 jobs or more experience or higher education, that is what a living wage is. Increasing minimum wage only increases the cost of goods which will then be a never ending cycle.

 @9GGM8HWLibertarianfrom Virgin Islands  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Living wage is treated like an entitlement and the result is behaviour does not change. There are many country wide examples of this where the government subsidizes the people and the resulting poverty increases.

 @9G2JYLW from Michigan  disagreed…2yrs2Y

It will continue to inflated the money, so freeze it all, and possibly go into a depression, but we should know how to handle it.

 @9G2MY6N from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

 @9G2XJRRRepublican from Illinois  disagreed…2yrs2Y

the government should keep the minimum wage the same. minimum wage jobs should not be able to support a family of 5.

 @B5NVBDJ from Oregon  agreed…1mo1MO

Minimum wage should mean a LIVING wage. The minimum wage should allow for people even in the lower income brackets to live housed, and financially sound; rather than living paycheck-to-paycheck.

 @9F7YFTB from Virginia  agreed…2yrs2Y

Making the minimum wage a living wage means that no matter what bracket you come from you can survive.

 @9FXWW54 from Kentucky  disagreed…2yrs2Y

People should seek higher education and seek to work for promotions to be able to work up the ladder and earn the money that is necessary to raise a family.

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia  commented…2yrs2Y

The higher education that costs a fortune? Most lawyers, doctors, and professional workers are drowning in student loan debt, promotions are just as often made by the bias of the higher ups, and owning a house in this country is nearly impossible, much less raising a family.

 @9GW85LXLibertarian from Maryland  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Don't raise minimum wage. Businesses would continue to lose money and the cycle would be never ending.

All it does is cause unemployment, basic economics, artificially increase prices, increase supply reduce demand, causing surpluses

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  commented…2yrs2Y

The problems are a direct result of the decisions of private business owners; a living wage isn't responsible for any of these issues.

 @9G9GN2ZRepublican from Idaho  disagreed…2yrs2Y

The problem that most people don't understand about our nations economy, is that when you raise the minimum wage you are sending an invitation to a massive raise in inflation over an extended period of time.

 @9GBKN5HDemocrat from Pennsylvania  disagreed…2yrs2Y

If you increase minimum wage so that you can make it a living wage it won’t be considered a living wage once it’s raised because if you raise minimum wage it raises the price of everything thing else keeping it in an never ending cycle.

 @9FW4T23 from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Most people shouldn't dream of working a minimum wage job, they should strive for more technical careers that provide more benefits. Minimum wage is a starting and experience gaining job... not a career.

 @9FVN9YK from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

With the raising of minimum wage it would cause inflation of all sold goods, not to mention it would deem hard working professions and people who have put in the work for schooling to get a good job basically worthless. If we equalize everyone's wage then no one will try and we will have everyone in society working minimum wages because what's the point of doing a harder job for the same price.

 @9GB668DLibertarian from Indiana  disagreed…2yrs2Y

No, most minimum wage jobs are meant for people to gain experience in the workforce and to understand what different things mean on a pay stub or how different aspects of the workforce work.

 @9GLJ3B2 from Arkansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Doing this will raise the prices of everything because businesses will want the same amount of profit they had before, which will result in higher prices, which then a higher minimun wage won't be a living wage anymore

 @9GGDZTL from Ohio  disagreed…2yrs2Y

The mandated increase in a wage then means that the cost of the goods must increase to meet the need. This causes that cost of goods to increase, which causes the "living wage" to increase. Thus, creating a death spiral.

 @9FX3LL5 from Florida  agreed…2yrs2Y

Being able to live on a minimum wage would allow teenagers and young adults to be able t have more independence allowing them to to learn since many of them take on minimum wage jobs this could allow them to save for school or a apartment. It would also allow more money to flow through the low income areas creating more opportunities for those areas to improve.

 @9FZDHX9 from Tennessee  disagreed…2yrs2Y

No, most people already make under minimum wage in the country and struggle to make it along, raising the minimum wage would make it harder on the people also raising prices of all products and taxes.

If you are being paid so little get a new job. if you can't get a better education, because businesses will not be able to keep up with the pay and lay ppl off then fewer ppl will be employed.

 @9GB8WTB from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

The minimum wage is not set to make a living wage off of and this would cause major inflation in the entire nation.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Actually, yes, minimum wage literally WAS designed to be a livable wage for all workers, so your argument is historically and objectively incorrect.

 @B5PCWKN  from Georgia  disagreed…1mo1MO

Wage controls decrease job growth because it is an effective price floor on wages, decreasing demand. Additionally, prices will increase as producers seek to off-balance the increase labor costs, and small businesses will be hit especially hard. A Universal Basic Income funded through taxation is an infinitely more economically efficient way of remedying income inequality and poverty.

 @B5CFLPG from Utah  disagreed…2mos2MO

Minimum wage jobs require little to no prior education or experience and should not be the end goal of any working class individual.
