How might fostering empathy between nations alter the notion of ultranationalism?

 @9LCPTCS from New York  answered…1yr1Y

When you have a personal connection with someone or some group you tend to empathize more. Foreign exchange programs, travel and just pin pals are good ways to connect.

 @9LCPQHH from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

 @9LCPPC8Green from California  answered…1yr1Y

We'd tone down the amounts of radicalism in our nation and be instead able to bridge our differences.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

What emotions stir within you when your national anthem is played?

 @9JF3N8K from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

When I hear the star spangled banner instant chillz go through my body and an infinite amount of energy and freedom pulses through my veins until the final braaave when I cheer at the top of my lungs.

 @9JF3DGN from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Reflection on those who died for it to be played, but also an awareness that ultra-patriotism can be a bad thing.

 @9JF3NLCIndependent from Nebraska  answered…1yr1Y

I don't really care about the national anthem. You can stand if you want but I don't think you HAVE to stand if you live here. I won't stand if it's played nor will I stand during the pledge of allegiance.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Can ultranationalism ever be a force for good, or is it inherently problematic?

 @9H97SQR from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

It often causes conflicts and interferes with co-operation between nations, those who believe ultranationalism is called ultranationalist. Ultranationalist move from valuing their own nation and its interest to hostility toward people of other nations.

 @9H97TZ3Republican from California  answered…2yrs2Y

There are lots of problems with nationalism. Every country should go for more of a patriotism ideology.

 @9H97WZWDemocrat from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

It depends. I think it depends on the situation, but it can be used for good, and bad.

 @9H97B8Y from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Ultranationalism can be a force for good if it can rally the people together and create a more efficient one party government.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Can a country's extreme focus on its own interests contribute to global harmony or does it invariably lead to conflict?

 @9H8PKTL from Nebraska  answered…2yrs2Y

It does lead to conflict because the country is so focused on itself and its growth that it inhibits the growth of others and can lead to large conflicts.

 @9H8PHGM from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe that a country should be working in itsself before it can help anyone else

 @9H8QG7N from North Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

It doesn't just matter about your own opinion it also matters about the world too. There will be choices where it's good for your country but it's bad for others.

 @9H8PCSZanswered…2yrs2Y

It can help the global community by focusing more on scientific and general advancement.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

Do you believe your country should help others before or after resolving its own issues, and why?

 @9HFLG76 from Nebraska  answered…2yrs2Y

We should help ourselves first because if we can’t fix our own problems then how can we help others.

 @9HFM7YM from New Mexico  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe that our country should solve its own problems first because before helping other countries with their problems we must solve our own.

 @9HFMM6H from New Jersey  answered…2yrs2Y

I believe with the great wealth and resources of this country it is possible to do both at the same time.

 @9HFLLD5Progressive from California  answered…2yrs2Y

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

What does it mean to you to be patriotic, and where do you draw the line between patriotism and ultranationalism?

 @9HFD9VBanswered…2yrs2Y

A patriot is someone who stands for their country and fights for what they think is right in their country. Extreme forms of nationalism can become potentially harmful because people think to an extreme and it gets out of control.

 @9HFD7B7Workers from South Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

Patriotism is simply having respect and love for your country, Ultranationalism is when you take action.

 @9HFD5P9answered…2yrs2Y

Patriotism is supporting your country, and ultranationalism is supporting only your country.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

How do you balance pride in your country’s achievements with an awareness of its historical or current shortcomings?

 @9HFBRDW from New York  answered…2yrs2Y

Pride in your country should not impede in the recognition of shortcomings. You should be able to recognize when the nation messed up or did something wrong, and make movements to fix the problem, not dig in your heels and double down.

 @9HFBSGXRepublican from New York  answered…2yrs2Y

For as long as humans have lived they have taken land from each other it’s how the world works and it still happens to this day

 @9HFCHYCDemocrat from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

I think it is important to not only recognize, but to take action on our shortcomings. Until then, the "Pride" one feels is based only on platitudes

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

How does one differentiate between healthy national pride and the dangerous extremes of ultranationalism?

 @9H55BLPGreen from Utah  answered…2yrs2Y

There is no healthy nationalism it is inherently toxic and we shouldn't promote stupid ideas like pride in a dirt on the ground being better than another area of dirt on the ground.

 @Dairine-Monteiro from Massachusetts  answered…2yrs2Y

Healthy national pride is about celebrating your country's culture and achievements, while Ultranationalism takes it to dangerous extremes with aggression and exclusion.

 @9H554FF from Massachusetts  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9RLMC3Qfrom Maine  answered…11mos11MO

Healthy patriotism is a natural instinct, almost anyone who was born in a nation naturally considers it as a mother land. On the other side, dangerous nationalism is a pulsion which involves racism, xenophobia, neon@zism and violence, all bad values.

Ethnonationalism is the worst form of nationalism. It’s an absolute disgrace to human values (I think it should be a crime), praising xenophobia and anti minority behavior.

In what ways might ultranationalism impact a country's relations with its neighbors and the international community?

 @9H8Z39C from California  answered…2yrs2Y

At some point, ultranationalists move from valuing their own nation and its interests to hostility toward people of other nations.

 @9H92YD6 from Georgia  answered…2yrs2Y

It may form many protests and disagreements in community's because many people have different beliefs.

 @9H92RJCSocialist from Delaware  answered…2yrs2Y

It would negatively affect them because the nation would only worry about itself thinking it to be above rules.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…2yrs2Y

How important is it for a nation to admit and learn from its past mistakes, and how does this relate to ultranationalism?

 @9HFC729 from Florida  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9HFC3YLRepublican from Illinois  answered…2yrs2Y

It is important to make a nation better to learn from it's mistakes to make a nation better.

Cultural adaptability is necessary, and it depends on what the question means by “traditional”

 @ISIDEWITHasked…1yr1Y

How does your personal definition of loyalty to your country differ from the extreme views of ultranationalism?

 @9J5JBLR from California  answered…1yr1Y

I am proud and appreciative to have been born an American, which includes opening our arms to those to don't look or act like us. Others see it as an entitlement, something they chose or earned, as opposed to luck. They use that status to look down on and negatively affect those around them that weren't lucky enough to be born here.

 @9J5J2VC from Oklahoma  answered…1yr1Y

I think that we should be patriotic. I think we should love our country and all come together in times of need.

In an increasingly diverse society, how can we promote unity without suppressing cultural differences?

 @9HF9DCK from GU  answered…2yrs2Y

I think the answer to a more unified populous is acceptance and respect. I think there are many cultures in this world that have rules that may contradict others, but accepting and respecting a culture's ideals is important to a unified people in a way where we don't invade different ideals with ours, and vise versa.

When have you felt your national pride swell, and what caused those feelings?

 @9HZL3FQCA Common Sense  from California  answered…1yr1Y

In most recent times it's sad to say that I have felt little to no national pride swell within me, especially with the presidential elections that involved Biden and Trump as well as all social issues running to the streets for representation and whatnot. The last time I could feel national pride was Trump revealed the call between him and the president of North Korea boasting about our nuclear force and not backing down from a country like north Korea, I thought that it was the most appropriate response and made me feel proud due to our nuclear prowess.
