That way the employee can choose whether they really want to work for so said company. For pregnancy defiantly, but if a company is too small to provide full wages then reduce the amount paid. You technically hire someone to do a job. If they are not there to do it, then they shouldn't be paid the same a someone who is there. I think it also depends on worth ethics. So if it is someone constantly calling off for sick leave or personal issues, then maybe they shouldn't work there. But I think a company should provide some sick, personal leave, vacation time as an incentive. And the amount should either be universal to all employees or earned for years of service. If they are not doing their job and are abusing the system, then let them go. If they use up their time off and still need more time off, then they should know they won't get paid at all for those extra unworked days. I understand some people can get really sick and unable to work, like those with cancer. But a company still needs to function and if they can't function because someone is gone then they should either have the right to find a temporary replacement or hire someone new altogether.
